My Reflection

By doing this blog, I have gain lots of experience which I never had before. By blogging, it basically thought me the aspects of Media Publishing issues which I did not consider in a blog creation. I began from the very basic of designing principles, layouts till the core of compositions. This eventually increased my knowledge regarding media publishing and the essentials of designing a blog better.

Before this, I had a personal blog. Honestly, after learning much about the course and also the theories by many authors, i come to realise that my personal blog has many mistakes from the colour, text colours and also the structuring of my blog. However, I can now apply most of my understood theories that have been thought into good use to improve to a better blog.

Furthermore, I have understood clearly in how to blog ethically rather than just simply placing any issues which could cause problems. I am thankful that I have this opportunity to be able to learn all the media publishing theories and also the proper methods of using them. Therefore, hopefully the next time I create a blog, it will be a better blog than before thus also meeting all the criteria of having a proper blog.

Rise Of The Mobile Video Blog

Once again, technology development has been drastically changing to provide the society with simplicity and also the convenience in managing their daily routines. Mobile video blogs can be used even in mobile phones for their comfort to watch videos and also downloading which ever shows they would like to watch on their mobile. Besides that, the mobile video blogs are able to bring updated news about the world and even also live broadcasting just by having a mobile phone. Other than just watching shows on the phone, now you can even edit pictures and also edit musics just through your mobile phones.

However, specific mobile phones only can be played on the n95, Motorola's new Z10 or even LG KS20:

These phones are updated to bring the best for the people to gain the convenience and also the simplicity to watch their favourite series, editing, or even live broadcasting just in the palm of their hands. Before this, people were required to head home and watch their favourite shows on televisions and also on the computer. Now, with up to date technology, it basically helped the society in a better way thus also satisfying them through the new services. According to Kress and van Leeuwen (1998, p.188), information should be obtained immediate, short and detail in order to cater the fast pace moving society. That is why with rising mobile video blogs it allows immediate and fast wherever people are.

In conclusion, I would most definitely agree that the new technology has allowed people to deal in a simpler way and also in ease of having to watch programs that they desire just through the mobile phone. Editing and also postings can be dealt in through mobiles. Besides that, Walsh (2006) mentions A reader entering this site will do so to obtain information. Its purpose is to give the reader a variety of information engage us to not just learn but to become involved”. Therefore, with services provided in the provided specific phone shown it allows not only to learn but also to be part of the process. Such as watching your live football on your phone.

Facebook makeover leaves devotees fuming

The after effects of the new Facebook when it was launched. Facebook eventually created much devotees fuming due to the new layout and functions which did not match what the people wanted. Furthermore, the people are just so used to the previous Facebook interfaces until they do not intent any changes in Facebook. Reasoning to this is basically the society are comfortable with the previous layouts and the acts of a social networking website. Facebook engineer Mark Slee (2008) told the AFP that the website's team is confident they can win over their users because Nikki Gerwel explained the world is all about changes. These changes take place to provide better quality changes which then could attract and maintaining people to devoting to the site. About.com (2008) also describes a combination of form of and function creates the meaning of a document as a whole and whenever a change in the form of a document will eventually modify their functions which lead to a change in the document’s genre. This shows a change happens to build or create better services to the society.

Furthermore, Technology has been always developing to shape the world to a better place. That is why Facebook has taken this step in upgrading their new formats. The new interface allows members use tabs to gain priority to fresh pictures, messages, or "feeds" on main profile pages and compartmentalize mini-applications and "static" information such as curriculum vitae.

Towards my opinion i would say that the members and also new members should adapt to the new Facebook interchange. Reasoning to this is because as Walsh (2006) multimodels play an important role in creating that attaction thus also it allows simplicity to the members to use. Walsh (2006) further mentions that, with the new layout and upgrades done it creates affordance to the people as it provides better views, gadgets and the interactiveness of the new Facebook. Besides that, these changes are for the better not for the worst for the society. Slee (2008) mentions that "We are focusing on innovating and making the product better". That is why i would strongly agree that Facebook wants to satisfy members to gain the best experience they can get compared to the current Facebook.

Indonesian Weekly Apologises Over Last Supper Suharto Cover

According to this article it mentions about one of Indonesia's top news weeklies to apologize about the cover of its latest issue, which depicts former president Suharto and his children in a composition mimicking Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. The picture of Suharto's last supper and Jesus last supper is shown below.

Suharto's Last supper

Jesus Last supper

According to Shriver (1997, p. 369) "readers try to form an immediate representation of the meaning from the visual display". Furthermore, readers wait-and-see so they can use the full textual context to make their representation. Based on the visual interpretation of the readers over the topic (Indonesian weekly apologies over last supper Suharto cover), it eventually caused an upset to many christian believers because it tarnishes the meaning behind the original painting. However, Tempo chief editor Toriq Hadad mentioned that this was not an insult to christian and to Jesus Christ. Toriq Hadad further said "We were only inspired by the composition of the Leonardo painting, and not in the concept or context of the event told in the holy bible". Furthermore, christians were furious because it was againts the christians believes and customs. BBC (2008), states that “A religion is a set of tenets and practices” that is why it should not be a copied or criticize about cause it is a cultural believe to people.

A comparison of Jesus last supper was a simple practice of the memorial Supper, the "Christian Passover", we identify annually with our Saviour in his terrible sufferings throughout that night and the following day. It's a solemn ceremony Christians can observe in any place and in any circumstance of poverty or abundance (Jesus Christ All About 2008). However, Suharto's last supper Published after Suharto’s death seen as a comparison as if Suharto would rise up and go forth to heaven. Besides that, Suharto’s life was covered in secrecy and accusations that has not been proven. On the other hand Christ was said to be a sinless men in Christian contexts.

Towards my opinion, I would still agree that the news paper should apologise in the follow article. Reasoning is because it could cause issues such as discrimation and dislikings to the christian believers.

The Power Of The Photograph

Based in this article, it explains the significance of what visual pictures can do compared to just written text. Walsh (2006 p,24) mentions that multimodels play an important role as it is able to "show" audience the meaning in a clearer view compared to just written texts. Written text only are able to "tell" the audience purely with words. Furthermore, Kress & van Leeuwan (1998, pp. 175-208) explains that words can explain different meanings because of the tone, intonation, humour, irony, sarcasm and word play. Pictures helps understand the story clearer and also explain their current situation.

In given text (The power of the photograph), it explains that a first visitors of the day have arrived at the former-warehouse-turned-gallery. Right at the entrance a large photograph of a middle-aged woman, her face distorted by pain, her mouth wide open, and her left hand pressed against her cheek in horror. If it were to be just written like this we could only imagine of how she looks like. However, if this were to be placed in a picture form it would show in depth of how she would really be like. An example of A woman taken to an emergency feeding center in Somalia established by the Irish charity concern waits for food and medical attention.

Pictures are able to inform audience of the real story behind a story. It brings audience to another level of understanding of a situation. like the picture shown above, this was the help that was provided to her using a cart wheel as a form of transport to be attended to. Walsh (2006, pp.29-30) explains that images have effective, aesthetic, and imaginary level for audience to understand visualize meaning better.

However, pictures also has issues. Pictures can be altered leaving false information. Other than that, stereotyping other countries. Example Africa, who are having wars, poverty and diseases which needs much attention. Schriver (1997, p. 369) mentions, audiences relies both textual and pictorial elements to construct the meaning when reading the document as different modes (textual and pictorial modes) provide different interpretation and meaning. That is why with pictures it allow to create that awareness and interest to people. Finally, A combination of narratives and images will be able enhance the message to be convey effectively to the audience as both medium have different interpretations and communication method (Walsh 2006, p.31).

In conclusion, I would say that pictures plays a major role in creating that awareness to people but also allowing them to experience what people are experiencing in other countries. Pictures can express much feelings and also could tell many things about their lives. That is why, pictures should be complimented with written text to further show a clearer picture of what is happening.

New forms of media publishing

There are many new forms of media publishing, as you can see there is by:

By device

- Moblog (mobile blog)

Source: appleinsider.com

By media type

- vlog (video blog)
- linklog (blog with links to other relevant sites)
- sketchlog (picture blog)
- tumblelogs (a combination of medias)

According to Kress and van Leeuwen (2006), text and graphics are used together to form greater meaning as both these modes support each other. Therefore, i would think that the trends now are mostly the tumblelogs. This is because of the different media types such as the text, video, and pictures where bloggers would be able to convey their expressions. Furthermore, Walsh (2006, p.31) states that, Bloggers enter a site is to obtain information and its main purpose is to provide people with numerous types of information. That is why, I would say that tumblelogs would be the trendiest is because people have different ideas and experiences they face everyday and bloggers would want to express them. Furthermore they also want to share about their experiences.

Online Vs Print

Technology has been changing so quickly without us noticing is. Now in the current environment there is wireless connection and even mobiles having to read their news from compared to the traditional printed version. However, the printed documents are documents which forces audience to read from left to right or even top to bottom (Kress & Van Leeuwen, 2006).

Personally, I would run through the news papers (printed form) just to know what happening information for the day is. According to Penman (1998) calls this kind of individuals as ‘flippers’. Flippers are readers which are most likely stop to read when something catches their attention. for example of a print is shown below.

Virtual newspaper readers allow to scan through the documents simpler (Nielsen 1997). Furthermore, by using the virtual newspaper, it allows quicker, simpler, concise and has the highlighted keywords and hyperlinks for further understanding (Nielsen, 1997). An example of a virtual news paper is shown below.

Title: The Monitor
Source: Goggle images

Hyperlinks are important as it gives me further information about the concerning issue. Walsh (2006) mentions that hyperlinks allow readers to research more on the particular topic the reader is interested in.

For example, whenever I on my lap top, I always have Yahoo as my start up web page cause it allows me to know the latest happenings. Furthermore, Yahoo provides text, videos, articles which are all related to the particular story.

Title: Yahoo

To conclude, I would say both plays an important role in providing information. It depends on how one selects the Medias to suit their lifestyle.
